Keith is soooooo excited  it's Yankee's game day!  Family and I had a lazy morning ...they left early afternoon for Yankee stadium to watch the Yankees play Detroit...Mickey and I  are cooking spaghetti...Five more things I am learning about rving.

1.  You can cook spaghetti noodles in an electric frying pan.
2.  It is possible to watch HGTV for a straight 5 hours.
3.  You can only use a biodegradable toilet paper!
4.  In my experience, maybe 8 days now, always a picnic table..even in a parking lot..don't forget the cloth! popular color choice/red checked or checkered..whatever part of the south you might be from......
5.  Dramamine can put a stop to motion sickness before it starts! A must have!

Well I think Mickey and I might nap until our excited Yankee fans get back to share all the details about the game!
Until tomorrow ....your drowsy, lazy, rving flamingo

No games..nothing planned..Today is supposed to be "my day"...I did not ask for it ..I am trying to look at it as a gift...Because there was no where we HAD to be we had a late morning...bacon, eggs, grits and orange juice or mountain dew...Now on to dumping...

1.  In the appointment book for pumping if there is a squiggle line means crew took that day off.  Squiggle line down today..2nd day..no pumping!
2.  Let's do this! Now need to drive 100 yard over to the dump site...BUT..this means unplugging, unhosing ,pushing buttons to bring in sides and holding on to anything that moves!
3.  Over to the site in 45 seconds (or less)..3rd in line.
4.  Rv's come in all sizes ..The bigger the rig the bigger the dump..Two pretty big rigs in front of us.
5.  Our turn...Put a hose in a hole less than 15 minutes back in parking space.
On the New York..Ground Zero..at St. Paul's Cathedral.  That church in the middle of all that chaos was never damaged in any way..It served as a rescue center and is so very beautiful..With many many visitors and all the horror of that time..it resonates an indescribable peace.  I could have stayed and prayed forever.

Walking..Walking..Walking..and we're home.
Good night...the rving flamingo

Our home for 5 days ..parking lot..camping site at the Liberty Harbor RV Park..our view across the water is the lady herself..minus the wires..Only a PATH ride away!
Family had a great time at the Mets game came in late..so crockpot stew is for lunch before they are off the another Mets game..They are having a great time..Mickey and I had great evening just chillin'
Five more tips or frantic calls for help..
DUMPING
1.  I'm not going to begin to explain this process..only sharing how it affects me...The way I understand it there are two tanks..one for sink water and shower water and  one for toilet waste. If you hear a gurgle sound... check a box on the wall..If it shows a gray light..Problem...Bathhouse could come into play if the problem is not resolved..Full Tanks..
2.  Choices "Dump your tanks yourself" or pay someone on site to pump for $20.00
3.  To me this is a no brainer..there is one dump site here..always a line of rv's to dump..plus it just sounds like a ucky process.  The absolute best buy of the trip..go to the office ..pay $20.00.. and they will be at your site no later than 1:30 p.m.
 4.  At 3:30 p.m. and it hasn't happened check with the office...The cute little fellow behind the desk thanks you  profusely for letting them know and it should happen no later than 5:30 p.m.  Tanks full.. being careful water does not go down those drains!  Once again dare I use the word backup...?
5.  At 6:00 p.m.I check back with the office.. To find a different employee on duty..that shared with me the cute little fellow that had been helping me all day was indeed a new hire.   Evidently when there is a squiggly line down the entire day in the appointment book the pumpers are taking the day off..I don't know if that should have tipped us off or the fact that we were the only name listed in the book! Family has gone to the game so Mickey and I are handling this like the newbies we  are!
Until tomorrow..more on tank relief.. I remain your rving flamingo

Good Morning from the Liberty Harbor Campground in New Jersey..Family gone to Mets game and as you see my buddy Mickey above we are napping, reading, chillin' and watching tv. at this campground satellite is coming in great!   A little london broil, potatoes, onions and carrots simmering in the crockpot..Life is good..

1.  I left you with all camp sites are not the same!

2.  Liberty Harbor is a parking lot with water, and electric hookup in your parking place. No wonder the satellite is working great no trees in sight.

3.  The dreaded bathhouse is doable for my purpose.

4.  If you do not rent or tow a care you need to find transportation...My son-in-law in charge.

5.  The only grass in a parking lot is what pops up between the cracks..Next challenge..Mickey needs more incentive..anybody see a doggy park?

Until tomorrow I remain a crockpot cookin', grass lookin', rving flamingo

On the move...After a breakfast of pancakes, strawberries, blueberries, melon and orange juice (did remember the electric frying pan) we are on the road to New York.

1.  When moving from place to place..there is no real packing..Remember all those cubbies and cabinets I mentioned earlier, forget what I said about organization..Pack them full of anything that moves and is heavier than a pillow.  Something as simple as body wash and shampoo falling in the shower could be mistaken for the rear end falling out of your vehicle.  Unplug and unhook (none of this involved me) you are on your way.

2.  Once again take the back bed and let the road choose your exercise...The Brooklyn Bridge alone will totally take you 2" off the bed and bounce places you did not even know you had.

3.  Stop at a rest area for a siesta..built in bed..snack..bathroom ...wake up and drive again.

4.  RV's are larger than a car right?  In New York traffic they are huge!

5.  All campgrounds are not the same!!!!!!!!

Changed clothes...grabbed PATH (transportation) and went into New York City.  After much walking, dinner, and much walking on our way to the PATH among the tall buildings low and behold much to my amazement there looms a K Mart.  You guessed it I scored a $17.95 crockpot!
Now what did I do with those recipes!
Until tomorrow I am a crockpot cookin' rving flamingo!!!!!

The family has enjoyed two games in Boston..Mickey and I  experienced more things in world of rving.  Today it is all about the dreaded bathhouse...

1.  The deal... I would consider this rv adventure as long as I didn't have to use the bathhouse and they could keep me cool.(cannot abide being hot).  The compromise...we will keep you cool and you only have to use the bathhouse for one thing (you know #2) ...AGREED...Needless to say I've only used it once..so far..don't know who or what is going to be more backed up  when I get home.

2.  Today needed to use bathhouse ...fairly desperate..of course ..it was being cleaned, a good thing, but the sign says another 30 minutes ..one available in the rec hall center..Hello? there is a shower in there so someone is taking their own sweet time, or so I got from the grunt on the other side as I was removing the door from its hinges.

3.  Must say if I has some extra vaccinations I might have used this one to actually shower and what not..With of course flip flops, full body gear, a blindfold and nothing touching me on any side..maybe I could have gone in..

4.  Do people really brush their teeth in there?

5.  Take a smart dog with you.. Mickey and I were on a walk when I made the first bathhouse attempt.  Of course his needs were taken care of on the way there and he had  no concern for mine which I find disappointing, since I considered we were bonding.  Gently guiding him my way and his emphatic no resulted in his collar slipping over his head.  Compared to our size we weigh about the same..although he is younger.. Trembling with fear that my only responsibility on  this trip was going to be a greasy spot on one of the roads to everywhere...only to find him patiently waiting for me beside the door of the rv..Take a smart dog..(Choose one that cares)

We are packing up to go on the road to New York City...now don't you know that's the home of the RV?...
Until tomorrow..rvingflamingo is signing off....

Sunday, August 11, 2013

Good Morning I woke up under the trees in Littleton, Massachusetts to a gorgeous 60 degree day...family had a great time at the Boston  game last night..VIP tickets..down on the field ..Charlie scored 6 foul balls during batting practice..pretty pumped!  I can hardly say the same for Mickey and I ..perhaps surviving is a more appropriate description.  More observations/tips/experiences....

1.  An Rv vs. a tent..when the heavens opened up during the night and rain fell in torrents.(this thing has not shown it is amphibious..YET... ) RV has got to win...hands down..

2.  In an RV you have a lot of the same things you have at home..a kitchen sink, the size of a small dishpan..a bathroom sink that is even smaller..lots of cabinets and cubbies but very small..kinda like a playhouse..now I'm thinking the trick is organization...I'm just thinkin'...

3.  As far as a quiet time not so much  or maybe that's the RV way...After last night's revelry I am now fluent in 3 different languages...

4.  Beware of on-site stores..the much needed items at a premium...Who pays $2.00 for marshmellows or $3.79 for a quart of milk?

5.  In a campground most sites look alike ...kinda like the movie European vacation where Chevy Chase keeps going in circles saying "HEY look Kid looks..Big Ben..Parliament..."

Family off to another Boston game and Mickey and I are reading and having quiet time..Until tomorrow I am truly your rvingflamingo.......
